Just a little artistic treat for the holiday weekend:

Below is work by Georgia Wall, New York-based artist and “Clash of the Artists 2009” creative category winner.  If you click on the link below the photo, you will see the video of a remarkable dress she constructed from trash, aptly named “Trash Dress.” The photo here is of her installation called “Idle Hands.”

Fashion at the Village Voice Creative Block Party!

Posted in Uncategorized by Allyson Jacobs at Art For Progress on May 21, 2009

We had a blast Monday night at the Creative Block party. It was a wild night of burlesque, performance, music and fashion!  Here is the link to the photo on the Village Voice website, where we at Art For Progress featured New York designers Iliana Quander, Prizy Sebastain, Selma Karaca, and myself (Allyson Jacobs). Our resident beauty director, John Henry Edington created the great hair/makeup look, which was perfect for this crazy, artisistic event. Creative Block was the after-party for the 54th annual Obie Awards for theatre. Here is the link to more photos from the event:

Onward and Upward!

We are very excited about the positive responses from both the fashion and art worlds about Medium.  As we are in the process of choosing our designers, interest has been generated from across the globe. From places such as China, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Helsinki, the UK, as well as the US, designers are speaking to me about how they feel this is the way of the future. With an emphasis on the customer experience and social responsibility, designers will be able to have direct contact with their end customers while their independence and creativity are encouraged.

One of the most exciting things about Medium is that designers will be able to utilize our space to host trunk shows, fashion shows, and collaborate with other artists to create experiences that will facilitate both branding and exposure. Medium will be open until 10pm on Thursdays and Fridays, along with regular store hours. Customers will be able to shop while they attend art openings, view films, and hear great music.  As people are looking for a better way of shopping and spending both time and money, we want to bring those together who value integrity, artistic talent, originality and new experiences.

Welcome to Medium New York!

MEDIUM:  WHERE FASHION+ART=COMMERCE

First I will briefly introduce myself. I began this blog to reach out to the fashion and art communities about our new and innovative concept store/art space. I am Allyson Jacobs, the Fashion Director of Medium, soon to open in the Chelsea district of New York City. I am looking forward to this new retail format that brings fashion, art, music, and performance together on a daily basis. Just imagine a place where you can meet up with friends to shop for ultra sharp clothes and art from a selective group of international designers and artists, many who are unknown in the US. DJ’s will play, musicians will perform, and dancers/performance artists will showcase their work to create the ultimate shopping party. With late store hours on Thursdays and Fridays, in addition to regular daytime hours, customers can enjoy the Medium experience at their convenience. We will also be launching the same experience on-line, with a new interactive website. Below is a brief description of our concept:

With plans to launch in May-June 2009, Medium will consist of a full-service designer collective, visual art gallery, performance space, and interactive website. Medium is partnering with Art For Progress (AFP), an established 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with an active international community of artists. Fashion designers will have the ability to retail their lines while their customers enjoy special events and live music, attend art openings, and preview indie films in both the real and virtual worlds.

Medium will feature designers who create original, high-quality artistic collections. With this in mind, we have formulated a unique opportunity for designers in sales, branding, networking, marketing and PR that is comprehensive, innovative and interactive.

KEY BENEFITS WE PROVIDE:

Attractive Manhattan location with a compelling, artistic retail setting

Industry-leading publicist and progressive marketing/advertising strategies

Experienced, attentive full-time sales staff and management team

On-line sales opportunities and designer features on our interactive website

Extended retail hours with special events, presentations, and shopping parties, as well as opportunities for personal appearances and trunk shows

New York Fashion Week and wholesale marketing opportunities

Please contact us via email at medium@artforprogress.org for more info or to request a designer package.

I will be writing more about our progress as we near the opening of our space. We look forward to your comments and input!
